Signs you have outgrown your role (and / or) company…

Everybody gets that Monday feeling now and then, but if you’re getting it every other day of the week then clearly something is amiss! Given most of us spend a very sizeable chunk of our life at work, it’s especially important that this time is as rewarding and enjoyable and fruitful as possible.

Making the decision to find another job is a big deal and something that shouldn’t be taken lightly especially in these uncertain times. But staying in a company that you have outgrown can be riskier and even damaging to your career.

If you’re feeling frustrated, bored or unfulfilled on a regular basis then it’s time to take some action. Spooked at the thought of losing a valued team member, employers sometimes promise that things will improve, or that there is a promotion or pay rise just on the horizon. Sadly, these promises don’t always materialise. If you find yourself in this situation, think about putting a time limit on how long you can wait and check in regularly to see how things are progressing. If not, you may well find yourself in a permanent holding pattern!

In an ideal world, your employer will be able to make the changes that you need, but if not then maybe it’s time to take the plunge. Once you’ve made the decision, you might wonder why it took you so long!
