Job hunting over the festive period

So it’s coming up to that time of year when people try to be ‘pleasant’ and do ‘pleasant’ things in order to feel ‘pleasant’. I’m talking about Christmas of course.

Now it’s completely understandable that people have their minds on other things and don’t necessarily have their game faces on when it comes to finding a great new role. However, our clients don’t stop looking for talent just because it’s coming up to Christmas, and if you’re on the lookout for the perfect role then neither should you.

It turns out that Christmas is one of the best times to look for a new job and there are a few reasons why.

  1. Firstly, most people will wrongly assume that companies won’t be looking to hire around the festive period and therefore will no doubt put their job search on hold until the New Year. What this means consequently is that there will be far less competition out there, which can only be a good thing.
  2. Secondly, it’s that time of year when companies tend to start sorting out their budgets for next year. As a result, this means it’s also the time when companies may become aware of surplus funds for recruitment, which makes it a good time to get the ball rolling with that company you always wanted to work for.
  3. Finally, if you’re looking to do some temp or contract work, whether for experience or for extra Christmas gift money, then the festive period is one of the best times to do it. Companies often find their resources stretched during this time as staff take holidays to visit relatives, whilst in the meantime the work keeps rolling in. These client needs must be met somehow…which is where you could come in.

So whatever stage you are in your job search or whatever your reasons for leaving your current post, it’s certainly worth having a look to see what’s out there in the festive period and getting the ball rolling before the inevitable mad rush in the new year. You never know, you might unwrap the perfect job, no receipt required.
