Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

At Hasson Associates, Mental Health and Wellbeing has always remained a top priority. We strive to ensure everyone’s mental health and wellbeing is acknowledged all year through, and not just during mental health awareness week.

A few years ago, I completed a short course in Adult Mental Health with MHFA England. Completing the course made me better equipped to support and guide the team should they need it. Whilst I do not claim to be a qualified profession in Mental Health, thanks to the course, I am now capable of noticing, managing, and advising individuals who show signs of stress, anxiety, and depression.

It is vital that businesses provide a safe and supportive work culture, where work life stresses do not cripple the team’s mental health and performance. Here are some recommendations on how you can create a safer, supportive, and positive work environment:

  1. Enrol someone in the business to do a course on Mental Health First Aid.
  2. Consider offering flexi working to encourage work/life balance.
  3. Reward efforts. Showing gratitude is a real mood booster!
  4. Ensure your team have ways and means to communicate openly.
  5. Be honest and transparent – keep your team up to date with business news and reports.
  6. Lead by example!

This week, we are encouraging our team to take an extra hour a day, aside from their lunch break to do something mindful and fulfilling to them. Whether it be swimming, yoga, cooking, baking or gardening… doing something you love lifts your spirits, and in return, enhances performance.

So, take this week to revisit your internal strategies around mental health and wellbeing and share your ideas to inspire and encourage others to create a happy, supportive, and safe work culture.
