Open your business to flexible talent…

I don’t think it’s a war so much as a constant battle. All businesses (ours included) need to continuously maintain a pipeline of talent. You never know when disaster/resignations might occur, or when you win a big piece of business and need a bigger team to support the new client.

So it is best practice to always be chatting to prospective employees.

We all know that right?!

As a recruiter, one of the most frustrating things is when we find a candidate that’s perfect for you, but they need flexibility or part time hours…and you say no. With the advance of technology you would think employers would be more open to the concept, but sadly this is not the case.

For those that do allow flexible working, you need to be careful that you aren’t encouraging job creep. Your employee works 4 days a week and is paid for those 4 days as per your agreement… yet on their day off, the phone pings – meetings get booked in – conference calls scheduled. Sound familiar?

That’s because it is, and I feel that businesses can do more to be more transparent and honest about how they support their flexible workers.

Additionally by being upfront and encouraging flexibility you could use those financial savings to hire another person on  flexi or part time hours. You therefore end up with a more diverse and motivated work force, plus open yourself to a whole raft of talent which previously wasn’t available to you.

So why not open your business to talent that wants 3 or 4 days a week? – You may just transform your search for the perfect candidate.

We are a team of 11 here at Hasson Assocaites, with only 3 working the ‘traditional’ office hours, within the office.
